3rd Grade Curriculum At-A-Glance
Back to school review- Introduction to Spanish – common expressions, colors, numbers, commands, parts of body, school objects
School community unit and the objects and items in the classroom.
School community unit and the various places in the school, and all the activities that take place in the school. One week is devoted to a cultural unit about the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead, “Día de los Muertos”.
Tiburon community unit. Students are learning about the resources in their communities, primarily the businesses and services in and around Tiburon. Physical geography unit of area and landmarks are explored.
Global unit. Geography beyond Tiburon. Students engage in activities related to the seven continents. Students connect via technology with students from Spanish-speaking countries around the world.
Storytelling unit using commonly known stories- Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood and Three Little Bears in Spanish as students learn common vocabulary, act the stories out and engage in various reading, writing, speaking and listening activities that further reinforce vocabulary presented in stories.
Cultural unit about México. They are doing a deep-dive country study about the Mexican culture, customs, typical food, art and dance. Celebrate 5 de Mayo.
Continue with cultural unit on Mexico. Students engage in various TPRS stories related to Mexican culture and various festivals. Culminating projects with Mexican piñatas and foods of Mexico.
